Celtic blessings

An uplifting compilation

Celtic blessings is a beautifully presented little hardback book. It would make an ideal gift to encourage a friend from any church tradition or from none.

It’s a compilation of blessings, prayers, and Scripture verses, all from the Celtic tradition. Some are from the Irish saints of old. In those cases, some brief details about the saint are included. This one seems particularly apt in this time of coronavirus uncertainty:

Saint Brendan’s Prayer

Help me to journey beyond the familiar
and into the unknown.
Give me faith to leave old ways
and break fresh ground with You.
Christ of the mysteries,
I trust You to be stronger than each storm within me.
I will trust in the darkness
and know that my times, even now, are in Your hand.
Tune my spirit to the music of heaven,
and somehow make my obedience count for You.

The Celtic Christians were very aware that we can see God’s ways in creation. Following in their footsteps, an inspiring photo enhances the impact of each prayer or blessing. Many of these images are of nature, but not all. For example, Saint Brendan’s Prayer is matched with a photo of the bow of a weatherbeaten sailing boat.

However we choose to use Celtic blessings, perhaps one blessing a day, or dipping in and out, it will encourage us that God is with us whatever we do and wherever we go.

Your purchase of this little book will support an international charity working with people affected by leprosy.
