For 0 to 7 years
These books for 0 to 7 years start with those which celebrate a new birth. They continue up to those which a 7 year old can read on their own. A daily time of reading aloud to the youngest child is invaluable. It aids their language and literacy skills. The language in even the simplest books tends to be quite descriptive. It also has more formal grammar than the words usually spoken to an infant. Development of vocabulary and language sets a child up for success in formal education and lifelong learning.
Reading aloud to a child on a regular basis also strengthens your bond with them. They enjoy your attention and love, and feel nurtured and reassured. These feelings of well-being encourage trust, which fosters positive growth and development. Books allow children to explore worlds outside their own. This encourages their imagination. Reading also develops attention span, self-discipline, and memory retention.
Reading together with a child facilitates discussion of real life experiences and issues. This sets a child up for effective communication with adults as they get older. It is important that reading aloud to a child moves on into reading a book with them, and then gradually into them reading for themselves.
All the books which I select for 0 to 7 years have an important message about God and His love. I especially like God is really good, which in an amazing way takes the message of God is good, a book for adults, and re-frames it for children.
